We are often connected to high school sports in the area and love getting a shot of the game winning touchdown or the dunk shot where a kid is violently placing the ball through the hoop. This week, I have had another opportunity to do something else as equally special......work with the drama kids in their pursuit of bringing a show together for the community to enjoy. Although there is no ball involved, there is a thing called mental grit I see in these kids. They have lost a lot of rehearsal time with the midwest winter, it's a musical, and there is wide variety of ages represented by the cast members. Oh yeah...did I mention they still have school and homework assignments as well? When I was here last night, the atmosphere was heavy. The last week leading up to the performances are always intense, but they faced a whole set of new challenges with the circumstances I previously mentioned. Although they were tired and grouchy, I saw a team working their pig tails off to make this the best darn show possible. Many people will down play high school shows because it is made up of a director/babysitter and a bunch of kids which can be the case at times. There is no denying that. I didn't see this last night. A saw a cast and crew WORKING with Mr. Aaron Westrum to own the show. This is a group of kids who are taking this seriously and not for a "high school" for actors who want to put on the best show they can and don't want excuses why it wasn't.
